About

"I'm fascinated by objects that are beautiful and functional and the way they reflect and influence the personalities of the people who use them. As a woodworker, I appreciate the natural beauty of fine hardwoods, integrating their patterns and colors into quietly elegant furniture, boxes, and other woodworks. I am inspired by nature, both in the beauty of wood, and in the plant and animal forms that I use for carved and painted details."

Hayley's interest in woodworking began as a child building dollhouse furniture from balsa wood. Years later she pursued her childhood passion by attending North Bennett Street School in Boston, the oldest trade school in the U.S., specializing in traditional 17th and 18th century woodworking, joinery, and other techniques.

Upon completing the cabinet and furniture making program, she spent several years gaining practical experience in a cabinet shop and taking fine arts courses at Massachusetts College of Art and University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In addition she also taught courses in woodcarving at North Bennett Street School and Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Aspen, CO.

In the winter of 1995 she was offered a job with a new woodworking company forming on the island of Kauai, HI. Feeling restless and ready for a change, she accepted the offer without hesitation. In 2009, after 14 years of crafting wood on the island of Kauai, Hayley moved with her family to Asheville, NC. She has been a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild since 2011.

With a group of woodworking friends and family, she built a shop behind her house, and has been designing and building her furniture there since 2012.
